Lobster's second half dominance too much for the Sheers

Redhill 2 Sheerwater 0 - Saturday, 14th September 2024

Winning all eight matches, scoring 20 goals and keeping six clean sheets has taken Jordan Clark's Lobsters three points clear at the top of the Premier South table at this early stage of the season. Both goals in Saturday's 2-0 home win against Sheerwater from the Woking area came from left-wing corners with Tommy Smith and Sean Swift getting the important touches.

Redhill seemed to lack a little energy in the first half, three days after that exhausting midweek win at Balham, and they had to thank star 'keeper Luke Roberts for keeping it goalless with two outstanding saves. He got a hand to Elliott York's fierce shot from close in when a goal looked a certainty, George Sellick following up to lift the ball just over the bar, and later tipped over at full stretch a misdirected header from one of his own defenders.

The Lobsters, second best up to the break, started the second half with a clear determination to take the game to the visitors and it turned out to be more than 12th-placed Sheerwater could handle. Within six minutes the home side were ahead, Smith heading in from Nathan Hogan's corner into the near-post area. Now it was all Redhill, Seb Tauta-Caballero firing against the underside of the bar and Paddi Harland-Goddard's bouncing drive being pushed away by 'keeper Chris Adams.

The clincher came on 70 minutes from another corner. Skipper Eoin Fraser headed the ball back into the middle from beyond the far post and midfielder Sean Swift was perfectly placed to knock it in for his second goal of the season. So in the end it was another comfortable win for the Lobsters, all the sweeter as the Sheers had done the double over us last season.
