10-man Redhill battle courageously to earn draw

J O7 Apr - 15:40

Despite injury and red card, Lobsters dug deep to share the points with Bulls

Redhill 1 Jersey Bulls 1 - Saturday, 5th April 2025

Redhill's draw with new leaders Jersey Bulls in front of a crowd of 576, the biggest seen at Kiln Brow for many years, kept them second in the Premier South table and still in with a great chance of promotion.

They lost Olly Allen to what looked like a facial injury after just three minutes, his injury occurring when he and team-mate Sam Fitzgerald both went to head the ball near the halfway line. The influential midfielder needing to be quickly taken to the nearby hospital, and Redhill found themselves down to ten men for the whole of the second half following Sean Swift's dismissal for two yellow cards. But the Lobsters proceeded to show tremendous grit and determination to keep a clean sheet until the 85th minute with Luke Roberts once again on top form in goal.

Then Bulls defender Luke Campbell headed in from a corner at the back post moments after Roberts had made a miraculous save from a Joe Kilshaw shot that was soaring towards the top right corner. But grafting midfielder Seb Tauta-Caballero, who had run himself almost to a standstill like all of his team-mates, had enough energy left to produce a priceless equaliser in the last minute of normal time as he slid the ball home after Bulls 'keeper Euan Van Der Vliet had parried his initial close-range header.

This extraordinary match had 27 minutes of added time - 17 in the first half and 10 in the second - and didn't finish until 5.16pm.

Redhill arguably shaded the first half, the Bulls' only real chance coming on 24 minutes when Miguel Carvalho raced in from the right to shoot a yard wide of the near post. The Lobsters had to dig deep when they were a man short but they continued to look dangerous from their long throw-ins and there were some lively runs down the right wing by substitute Jaevon Dyer.
