Hogan and Vendrells run riot

Nathan Hogan was Redhill's hat-trick hero as they won 5-2 away to Chipstead on Tuesday night to extend their lead at the top of the Premier South table to seven points.

All three of Hogan's goals came in a five-minute spell in the first half when the young striker was simply unplayable. His close control and powerful shooting had the home defence in a spin and at this relatively early stage of the season his goal tally is already in double figures.

Tuesday's match at High Road began in heavy rain and the Chips rearguard soon found crosses and shots raining in on them too as the Lobsters made a whirlwind start with Abel Vendrells, now in his second spell with the club, prominent with his weaving runs down the right that often took him past two or three opponents.

But that first goal was proving elusive for Redhill until Hogan got to work on 29 minutes, working enough space on the left to drive a shot into the bottom corner. His second strike three minutes later was almost a carbon copy and his third two minutes after that was the best of the lot as he held off two would-be challengers before firing past Chips 'keeper Jack West-Astuti.

It didn't stop there as Alex Keating turned in a fourth from almost on the line after Jack Poplett's inventive overhead kick and Joe Dyett made it 5-0 to the Lobsters at half-time from Adam Grant's quick free-kick. Chipstead may have been 17th in the table but they weren't about to capitulate and actually pulled two goals back in the second half through Luke Cook and Ronaldo Flowers on 62 and 77 minutes.
