Redhill 3 Alton 1 - Saturday, 26th October 2024
Redhill gave home fans in a crowd of more than 250 both tricks and treats in Halloween week with a 3-1 win against Alton on Saturday that kept them four points clear at the top of the Premier South table. Man-of-the-Match Nathan Hogan scored twice, taking his tally to 13 for the season, and also saw two other efforts thud against the bar. Alex Keating, looking sharper each game, was the other player on target as well as laying on both of Hogan's goals.
The Hampshire visitors found it hard to deal with Hogan's diagonal runs in from the right early on. His first shot hit the woodwork with some force and his second, which followed some slick interplay with Keating, sped into the bottom right corner for the opener without Alton 'keeper Theo Rust getting close to it.
So the Lobsters had the lead inside ten minutes and they continued to look full of attacking intent. A low Keating shot hit the inside of a post before Hogan made it 2-0 on the half-hour. Keating played him in again through the middle and he expertly took the ball round the 'keeper. The young striker saw an initial flick blocked on the line and then had the presence of mind to step back from the goal before slamming the loose ball high into the net.
Redhill were surely home and dry after netting a third nine minutes into the second half. Seb Tauta-Caballero chipped the ball across the box for Keating to coolly sidestep a defender and fire past Rust. Alton did manage to pull a goal back after substitute right-winger Angel Zapata was clipped in the box and Adam Poynter blasted home from the spot. There was a surprisingly long ten minutes of added time but the Lobsters toughed it out and were always going to hold onto those three precious points.
