Unbeaten run continues with home draw

Redhill were held to a 2-2 draw by Epsom & Ewell at Kiln Brow on Saturday. But the point gained, coupled with favourable results elsewhere, allowed the Lobsters to increase their lead at the top of the Premier South table to five points with nearly a third of the season gone.

In front of a crowd of 264 on an unusually warm October afternoon the two teams and the officials entered the field with 40 mascots. This was part of Redhill's "Girl Power" promotion and surely some kind of record. The feelgood factor around the ground was only enhanced by the Lobsters breezing into a 2-0 lead.

Nathan Hogan, the club's top scorer with seven, was involved in both goals. On nine minutes Adam Grant won an important challenge on the halfway line and his pass sent Hogan racing down the right wing. When he saw the whites of Epsom 'keeper Dan O'Donovan's eyes, he unleashed a fierce right-footer that soared into the roof of the net.

Then Hogan became the provider eight minutes before half-time, crossing to the far post for Sean Swift to nod home from close range. It was the grafting midfielder's third goal of the season. But Redhill couldn't quite maintain that momentum to the break as a home defender inadvertently headed an Epsom free-kick into his own net.

The mid-table Salts arguably had more chances than the Lobsters in the second half, former Redhill player Carl Oblitey levelling on 57 minutes after a tussle with Sam Fitzgerald and Luke Roberts helping the home side to preserve that unbeaten record in the league with some typically brave stops after that.
