Smith's header secures home win for the Lobsters.

Redhill 1 Colliers Wood United 0 - Saturday, 13th January 2024

Redhill beat an improving Colliers Wood side 1-0 at Kiln Brow on Saturday to record their first home win in the Premier South since September. The Lobsters' away form has been outstanding - they have yet to lose - and that has kept them very much in contention for a place in the play-offs.

An upbeat home side enjoyed a lot of possession early on, Tyrese Sutherland and Reyon Dillon raiding down the flanks, and it came as no surprise when they went ahead on 15 minutes. Sutherland was upended near the left corner flag and Tommy Smith was in enough space to power home a header from Jack Saunders' free-kick.

Tom Harland-Goddard was back in Redhill's starting line-up and he was unlucky with a header that Wood 'keeper Toby McKimm finger-tipped round a post. Three minutes before the break Luke Roberts came to the Lobsters' rescue with two full-stretch saves within a few seconds from a James Allen shot and a Charlie Sharpe header.

The Reds had several chances to increase that slender lead in the second half. Arlie Desanges was denied a goal by a debatable offside decision, McKimm stuck out his left foot to block Harland-Goddard's hard low shot and then palmed over a Saunders 25-yarder that was heading for a spot just under the bar. Wood piled forward against a tiring but always resolute Redhill defence towards the end with referee Jordan Crichlow failing to be impressed by two claims for a penalty.
