Lobsters finish with a flourish

Redhill 5 Horley Town 2 - Saturday, 10th February 2024

Redhill may have struggled to find the net in recent weeks, managing just seven goals in their last eight fixtures in the Premier South, but they put five past Horley Town in a wonderfully entertaining local derby at Kiln Brow on Saturday.

The Lobsters' 5-2 victory only kept them in eighth spot in the table but they have those vital games in hand and still have their sights firmly on the play-off places as they approach the business end of the season.

A crowd of 210 - a season's best at home in the league - saw an eventful match featuring two committed sides. There were seven goals that included two penalties and eight yellow cards that included one Horley player being directed towards the sin bin. In a breathless finale four goals were scored inside ten minutes!

Alex Keating gave Redhill the lead from almost on the line in the 21st minute after George Hyde had made a one-handed save from an Arlie Desanges header. But Sam Harper quickly levelled for the visitors, slotting past Luke Roberts after the ball had been played in behind former Horley stalwart Jack Poplett.

The Lobsters were 2-1 up at half-time. Full-back Sam Orisatoki, in space following Tom Harland-Goddard's astute sideways pass, drove a left-footer inside the far post and that is how it stayed until those mad last few minutes. Reuben Duncan for Redhill and Harper for Horley converted their spot-kicks before Desanges charged through a tiring defence to score twice in added time and make it 5-2.
