Redhill 2 Fleet Town 0 - Saturday, 15th March 2025
Redhill remained top of the Premier South table after Saturday's 2-0 win against Fleet Town at Kiln Brow. It was a match that featured some outstanding goalkeeping by Redhill's Luke Roberts. He made a series of top-drawer saves to ensure that the Lobsters secured three more precious points in their push for promotion.
Fleet had won when the teams met at Calthorpe Park back in November, one of only three defeats suffered by Redhill in their 33 league fixtures this season, and the Blues were now fifth in the table with a chance of finishing in one of the play-off places. But it was the Lobsters who initially held the upper hand on Saturday, Nathan Hogan bursting through the middle after five minutes and forcing Blues' keeper Finley Purcell to rush out and block his firm shot.
A Redhill goal which had looked likely for a while finally arrived on 20 minutes. Charlie Penny, starting up front for the first time, did well to hold off a defender before slipping the ball across to midfielder Seb Tauta-Caballero who swept it confidently past Purcell for his first goal of the campaign. Then, with Fleet hitting back hard, Roberts excelled with two flying stops in quick succession from Dean Rule, who has been capped for England Schoolboys, and Ross Stepney.
Roberts launched himself to his left to claw away another header from Stepney before Redhill doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half. A short corner on the left was floated towards the far post by Olly Allen for Joe Dyett to power in a header that bounced beyond Purcell's dive. Hogan was denied in a one-on-one with the 'keeper, Sean Swift headed over from two yards out and Jaevon Dyer was unlucky with two good efforts. But it was some great defensive work, particularly from Roberts between the posts, that ultimately won the match.
