Redhill 2 Colliers Wood United 0 - Saturday, 8th October 2022
Redhill overtook Colliers Wood on goal difference to grab second spot in the Premier South table after beating them 2-0 in an inspired display at the Brow on Saturday. The Lobsters are still on the crest of that wave having won nine of their last ten matches in league and cup and all five under Interim Manager Antonio Simeone with just three goals conceded.
The Reds made a very upbeat start against the league leaders and when Wood forced a corner after ten minutes it was virtually their first attack. The home side continued to keep possession well but didn't really come close to taking the lead until 'keeper Joshua Barnett pushed away Serge Makofo's firm right-footer on 36 minutes. A minute later centre-back Lynden McGugan leapt highest to Lewis Taylor's right-wing corner towards the far post and referee Wyatt ruled that his downward header had crossed the line.
So the Lobsters led 1-0 at the break. Wood had their chances in the second half, in particular a volley by ex-Redhill player Kieran Campbell that was deflected inches over the bar. At the other end Barnett make excellent saves from Shaun Okojie, Max Oldham and Yannick Monga as the Reds looked for a second goal to clinch the points.
With Wood having no choice but to pour forward they were bound to leave gaps at the back. Three minutes into added time Okojie, having his best game for the Lobsters, played Monga in and the midfielder shot the ball between the 'keeper's legs and into the net for 2-0. Two great wins for the Lobsters inside five days.
