The next installment of the Redhill play-off charge welcomes Cobham FC to Kiln Brow, with Cobham knowing a win confirms the CCL Title.
In Redhill's mascot day, the club welcome approximately 50 young players onto the pitch pre-game to line up with the players. Great to see so many of the Redhill FC Youth players, friends, families, coming down to support the team.
First half
The game kicks off and within the first 5 minutes, Redhill are in charge, pushing forward, a great opportunity falls to Paddi Harland-Goddard just outside the box but his shot goes over the bar.
Plenty of half chances created early, and a enjoyable, high intensity, entertaining battle ensues.
Both sides playing some good football, some direct football where required, but lacking a finishing product in the final third. Plenty of strong challenges from both sides, with Cobham using their size and physicality to their advantage, but being evenly battled by the Redhill boys. Skipper & Captain James Dillon has to make a sharp save midway through from a close range shot after the ball fell kindly to Cobham, but other then that, no real clear cut chances and both sides go in for half time.
While the players take their half time instructions in the changing room, the youngsters are welcomed back onto the pitch to take some penalties - with Jerry having kittens about the pitch I'm sure! Split into youngers and olders, and with the assistance of a few familiar faces from the Youth Coaches, the kids enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Redhill's centre back rock, Tommy Smith for going in goal for the younger ones, saving anyone's penalties who said they weren't a Palace fan!
Second half
Second half kicks off and the pattern is much the same as the first, both sides creating half chances but nothing clear cut, until the 58th minute. Cobham corner which is cleared, but Cobham's Nicolas Obsorne fires in a shot from the edge of the area through a crowded box into the bottom left corner. 1-0 to Cobham, if the result stays like this, Cobham will be crowned Champions.
Redhill push forward but the defensive strength of Cobham - who have only conceded 24 goals in their 34 league games - shows, and Redhill just cannot break them down. Couldn't quite find the target on the chances we did have.
A few cheap fouls dotted throughout the half meaning Paddi HG, Adeshola Onasanya & Nick Inwugwu all picked up yellow cards.
The referee blows the full time whistle, elation for the Cobham side who are officially League Champions, who are gracefully congratulated by the Redhill team.
Final Score, Redhill 0 - 1 Cobham
A disappointing result, but a performance which showed plenty of battle, desire & will stand the team in good stead for their upcoming battles in the race for the play-offs.
The Lobster Army Man of the Match was given to Skipper & Goalkeeper James Dillon who made several excellent saves throughout the game.
A strong attendance of 255 for this fixture, it would be great to see as many people back down for Tuesday’s rescheduled fixture against Sheerwater!
Thanks to everyone who attended, and assisted with the day, & a huge congratulations to Cobham FC on their emphatic League Campaign this season 🏆
