A crowd of 215 in the Bank Holiday sunshine at High Road saw Redhill battle to a 0-0 draw against Chipstead in a Premier South fixture in which both goalkeepers - Sam Allen for the Lobsters and Jacob Bennett for Chips - had outstanding games. With Fleet and Knaphill both winning, Redhill slipped one place to third in the early-season table.
Chipstead had put four goals past Virginia Water on Saturday and started Monday morning's encounter in a very upbeat fashion, putting the Lobsters under a lot of pressure in the first ten minutes. But the visitors remained resilient and then started to put some good moves together in Chipstead's half.
Paddi Harland-Goddard, probably having his best game for Redhill so far, hit a superb cross on the run from the right and Bennett made a miraculous save from Alex Keating's firm header at the far post. The Chips 'keeper blocked Jayden Smith's low shot with his foot and saw an Eoin Fraser volley flash a yard wide.
The Lobsters took control in the second half and arguably did enough to go home with all three points. Bennett's acrobatic stop from substitute Aidan Brown's hooked shot was sensational and as the game moved into its last 15 minutes both Paddi Harland-Goddard with a ferocious right-footer and Tommy Smith with a header from a corner saw their efforts strike the right-hand post with some force.
Redhill 'keeper Allen, who has been such an able deputy for the injured James Dillon, kept a clean sheet by clutching the balls in the air and bravely diving amongst the flying boots on the ground.
