Match Report
Redhill sensationally knocked Isthmian side Ashford United out of this season's Emirates FA Cup as George Bond's stoppage-time goal won Saturday's Extra Preliminary Round tie 2-1 at Kiln Brow to leave the Lobster Army jumping for joy.
The home side's opener on 16 minutes was unusual. Seanan McKillop's left-wing corner arrowed into the near-post area, no Ashford defender managed to head it away and the ball ended up in the net with no player from either side having touched it. Two minutes later Tyrese Sutherland found himself one-on-one with Ashford 'keeper Jordan Gillmore but was eventually crowded out.
For the Lobsters Jayden Smith hit the bar with one deflected effort and then headed wide of a gaping goal after Alex Keating had flicked on Ryan Ferrar's corner from the right. Ashford, known as the "Nuts & Bolts", were expected to throw everything at Redhill's goal in the second half and that is exactly what happened.
The experienced Elliot Romain fired the visitors level from outside the box on 66 minutes. Then they did everything but score again as Redhill defended heroically. Tommy Smith and Archie Harland-Goddard headed countless dangerous crosses away, Ashford struck the woodwork twice from close range and home 'keeper James Dillon frequently had to dive into the dust storm in his goalmouth to grab the ball, taking a kick or two for his pains.
Two minutes into added time Tommy Smith got his head to Paddi Harland-Goddard's ball into the area and that gave Bond enough room to slam a left-footer across the leaping Gillmore and into the far corner for that glorious winner. Redhill now entertain Virginia Water, who play in the same division, in the Preliminary Round on 22nd August.
